Visual Models and Language in Maths: Number Concepts
Learn how easy it can be to differentiate and boost your students’ understanding of number concepts with visual models and language.
Course Description
Differentiation is an essential tool when teaching K–6 Mathematics. It allows teachers to meet the needs and abilities of all learners in the same classroom. One of the easiest ways to differentiate in maths is to use visual models and mathematical language.
In this course, Anita will share and explain how teachers can differentiate number concepts K–6 using her signature ‘Everyday Visual Models Sleeve’ – a plastic sleeve with her colour-coded insert sheets for ten frames, hundred charts and more.
As teachers engage with Anita’s classroom-ready tasks, she will also model how to immerse your students in mathematical language through all parts of a lesson – from the warm-up through to the reflection.

Delivery Model
This course is delivered as an after-school customised workshop at your school for your whole staff. It is suitable for early career teachers, experienced teachers, learning support educators, maths leaders and school leaders.
You can choose either a 2-hour or 3-hour course. If you choose the 3-hour course, Anita will offer practical advice on how to kick-start a consistent whole-school approach to using visual models and language in mathematics. This will involve teams reflecting on current practice and agreeing to what they will implement within the next week.
